Water Resistance: The Golden Rule of Vintage

The most critical rule for vintage watches is simple: keep them away from water. While your timepiece may have "Waterproof" written on the dial, the rubber gaskets that seal the case degrade over the decades. Treat every vintage watch as strictly non-water-resistant. Always remove your watch before swimming, showering, or exposure to heavy rain and extreme humidity.

Winding & The "Danger Zone"

When winding a manual watch, turn the crown gently until you feel resistance—never force it. For automatic watches, give them a few manual winds to start the movement before wearing.

⚠️ CRUCIAL WARNING: Never use the quick-set date function when the hands on your watch are between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM. During this "Danger Zone," the delicate date-changing gears are engaged. Forcing a change during these hours can severely damage the mechanical movement.

Magnetism & Physical Shocks

Mechanical movements are delicate micro-machines containing hundreds of tiny parts. Strong magnetic fields can magnetize the hairspring, causing the watch to run erratically fast. Keep your timepiece away from laptops, tablets, speakers, and magnetic bag clasps.

Additionally, avoid wearing your vintage watch during high-impact sports like golf or tennis, as severe, sudden shocks can damage the escapement and disrupt the watch's accuracy.

Servicing & Proper Storage
